Excellent show! I’ve been a fan of Jimmie Vaughan since the first Fabulous Thunderbirds album & own every album by the band with him and all of his solo albums, so finally getting the chance to see him and the Tilt-A-Whirl band at the Token Lounge was a very special experience.
I thoroughly enjoyed the set from start to finish, and the songs from the new album sounded great.
“Scratch My Back” and “The Crawl” were much appreciated from the early days, as Jimmie’s solo on “The Crawl” was one of the first solos I learned to play.
Hope to visit Austin sometime when Jimmie Vaughan is in town to play at a local venue while I’m there, that has been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time now.
While he did put on a good show for the most part, he only actually played a couple of blues tunes. He has taken on a more jazzy style of music, using a jazz combo (sax and trombone prominent) including rearrangement of some blues tunes including some old TBird songs. So, if you like the old JV style you will probably will a little disappointed as his set is now more jazz based with 3/4 beat over the standard 2/4 blues beat with the horns in the forefront of most of the songs performed.
Jimmie Vaughan rocked the house last night. Unbelievably talented guitarist showed off several styles. Traditional Blues, Contemporary Blues, and some good old Rock n' Roll to top it off. Lou Ann Barton was a great surprise vocalist and together they had a lot of fun onstage that spread throughout the room. It's obvious that Houston loves Jimmie Vaughn.
We had a great time at Jimmie Vaughan Concert. I love the blues and he definitely delivered! I would go him anytime. He and his band were rocking the house. I do think he should update his profile pic and he don't look like that anymore, lol.
