I was one of the many who were unbelievably upset when Megafaun announced their indefinite hiatus in 2012. Thankfully I wasn’t left bereft for too long as the band has started touring again, and I was lucky enough to catch them in Brooklyn this May. Seeing the guys together again, guitar, banjo and cello in hand, I was reminded of how much I had missed them during their absence.
Megafaun’s ultra-chill psychedelic folk music is exactly the kind of thing you want to be listening to on a lazy Sunday afternoon in the fading sunshine. Go to one of their shows and no matter how stressful the week has been, you’ll find yourself immediately unwinding and relaxing.
The plodding beats and old-timey harmonies of songs such as ‘Volunteers,’ ‘The Longest Day’ and ‘Real Slow’ capture the essence of a more idyllic and peaceful time that has passed us by. Rather than being left longing for this time, you’re left with a sense of hope for a better day coming your way. The guys can’t get through a song without a giant smile on their faces and their happiness is infectious. Don’t miss out on seeing Megafaun. They’re genuinely wonderful and a joy to watch.
