In 1997, Matthew Chicoine, aka Recloose, a young DJ hailing from Detroit, contacted legendary techno innovator Carl Craig by handing him a demo of his music slipped in to a rye sandwich, when working at a Detroit deli. Well that is one way to garner attention! Sine then, Recloose has relocated to New Zealand and become a global star in the DJ world, playing an eclectic mix of influences to create some seriously bumping music. He also has created his own live band and collaborates with many bug names in the New Zealand music scene, such as members of Fat Freddy's Drop. His Boiler Room set from Melbourne was full of filthy grooves that flowed seamlessly throughout the set, with a heavy soul vibe permeating throughout. It was endlessly funky, making it near impossible to shimmy and shake that booty and nod your head furiously as if pecking, feeding of his flawless beats. Recloose himself was clearly loving the music, shifting around to the rhythm as he focussed on the decks. Recloose is a master at creating sets and music that needs to be danced to, fun, funky, energetic vibes offering the crowd a truly enjoyable experience, making him definitely a must-see on the live circuit next time he is in town.
