After the first time I heard 'Sometimes It Takes Balls To Be A Woman', I felt incredibly empowered and like I had the desperate need to go and see Elizabeth Cook perform the song itself live. I got my chance when she played at The Rumba Cafe in Columbus in November 2013, and the experience was really unforgettable.
Even though her entire album is absolutely incredible on tape, hearing her sing all of these invigorating, evocative, and very well-written tracks in person was an absolutely enthralling experience. Elizabeth is funny, gorgeous, and so well-mannered towards her audience that you feel like she's talking to a group of friends and not a crowd of faceless bodies. Everyone was dancing and having a great time, and she's just so inspirational to people that listen to her music and have the privilege of being empowered by the melodies she puts out there.
Elizabeth Cook is a hugely talented young artist, and she's on a very incredible career path that is going to take her to some really incredible venues and collaborations. I thoroughly enjoyed her live performance, and I think her voice only amplifies in talent when she's performing in front of you live.
The first singer was wonderful the second singer was okay. Elizabeth Cook raise my shock level. I was not expecting the vulgarity and blasphemy. I've been there Crystal Palace and number of times and was expecting a whole different concept of entertainment then the filth that she projected and her music regarding women with balls and the degradation of Mary the mother of Jesus. When I was in the ministry as a pastor of Riverview I knew Buck Owens as a man of conviction but also a man's man and I don't believe he would have ever allowed this woman to be at the Crystal Palace. Next time I decide to go there I will do a background on the one singing and not take for granted that they have a class of people that appeal to families with the country this position and class that I'm used to. That was my mistake for not checking her out. God bless you.
Once again Elizabeth Cook preformed a wonderful show! This was the fifth time we have seen her and each and every concert has been Great! This concert was no exception! It was in a small venue seating 150. I felt like I was really involved in the concert. We were so close to the stage we could prop our feet on the edge. Elizabeth performed a few old favorites and many of her new songs from her new album, "Exodus of Venus" telling us about each song before she sang it. After the show she came out and met with her fans, signed autographs and posed for pictures. I'll definitely see her again!
Elizabeth is a great performer. She plays a 12 string mandolin for most of the show. The band that plays with her are very talented. Her vocals are clear and a little twangy (that's a good thing). The songs she writes are real and often moving ( methadone blues). She is great to listen to. I thought the band's shoes had been nailed to the stage, though. They didn't turn, or wander, or even dance a little. I would have liked to watch the guitarist or bassist working their instuments. One other thing, the show was not quite 75 minutes long. I wished for more.
EC warned us she had been sick but if that is the case she should stay that way. I have been to 5 of her shows and this was by far the best. Trying out new songs for her next record, and they are fantastic, especially one about Stan in her Momma and Daddy's Hillbilly band. She had the crowd enthralled with stories, she hides nothing, and sings with a voice that is Loretta and Emmy Lou and Hazel Dickens and who knows who else all combined into a unique style. If you have a chance to see her perform, do not pass it up.
Elizabeth Cook's show at the Birchmere in Alexandria was first rate. Her three-piece backing band was tight and featured Derek Green, the producer of her latest album, on guitar and backing vocals. She sang most of the tracks from Exodus to Venus, including Methadone Blues coupled with My Heroin Addict Sister. My personal favorites were two covers, the Velvet Underground's Pale Blue Eyes and J.J. Cale's Magnolia.
Cant wait to see her again.
Anytime shes in area, I'm booked also.
Will be interesting to see who's her band this time. Last time , Tim was still there, but the Birchmere ,Alex. Va. Band last fall was totally faultless, although no personality on stage, but, thats Lizzys Job.
Full review after Columbus Day.

Elizabeth Cook is a great, singer, song writer and comic. She is the real deal and her beautiful voice, engaging smile and complete honesty made this evening a wonderful time.
I see her everytime that she comes to Tampa and always bring friends. We all enjoyed every minute.
Elizabeth Cook is a gifted songwriter/story teller in her music. She puts on a great show, her voice is beautiful and her show in Santa Cruz wowed the crowd. She takes her time, tells the back story of her songs, making them very meaningful for the audience.
