EES straight up dominates. The 3-piece dub themselves heavy metal but they lack the pretension of most metal acts and their lyrics are all about having fun and living in the moment. Aki (guitar/vocals) is a legitimate guitar god, shredding through songs and melting faces. Kazuo (bass) brings humor to the onstage antics and is one hell of a nice guy. Gian (drums) is certainly unique, oft hefting 4 drumsticks at once and playing in only a 2 meter sock.
As people, they are very down-to-earth and approachable. They are loving their life and it is contagious. You end up wanting to buy them a beer...
Musically speaking EES isn't shattering preconceptions or treading new ground. What they are doing is creating rooms full of fans every night they play wherever they go. And they do go, touring extensively in the States and in Europe as well as in their home Japan.
First time I saw them I was there for a different band. They pulled me in, and 4 shows on 3 continents later I am a HUGE fan.
If you have the chance, go see them. You won't regret it.
It's been over a decade since I last saw this band and they still totally bring it. This show was nails!! Played all the favourites, opening with Suicide Rock and Roll, also featuring My Favourite No. 9 and Rock and Roll Can Rescue the World near the end of their set.... bloody mint!!
