Sherwood are definitely one of those bands that I will always associate with my teenage years, when I was heavily in the pop punk and power pop and pop rock and basically anything that was pop with a bit of an edge. Sherwood was also huge on MySpace.com especially being one of the first bands to sign a contract with MySpace Records. This evening they open with the mid tempo track, “Learn to Sing”, which has these pop punk fanatics going wild for the music before them. There’s a very special atmosphere created, especially when guitarist Dan Koch plays an atmospheric guitar line doused in chorus and delay effects. The audience looks at each other trying to guess what the song is going to be but they can’t quite get it. It is when bass guitar clad, Nate Henry, steps up to the microphone and sings “Oh I don’t believe it, that I could be so deceiving, to bring a new down to feel this lack of loyalty…” what happens next is so special as the audience sing the rest of this first verse right back to Henry, his face looks in a state of disbelief as they launch into the pre chorus.
A truly nostalgic experience for all of those involved.
