Friday 18th August. Parker Millsap. The Borderline. Back to the Borderline again so soon and they have really stepped up their booking policy after a few years in the wilderness in my opinion. I still have my doubts about the renovation but the positives outweigh the negatives.
I have been looking for to seeing Parker Millsap for some time after contriving to miss his earlier trips to the UK and I was glad to see he was over with a full band shoehorning this date with his appearance at the Green Man festival. With no particular album to promote, his last the excellent ‘The Very Last Day’ came out last year, the set picks tracks from across his repertoire.
Millsap is a young storyteller singer from a small town in Oklahoma and he looks and sounds like a young Jason Isbell and I can’t give higher praise than that. But more than that he has a hint of Jack White in his attitude and guitar with a dash of Paolo Nutini in his vocals. Put it all together and he has a unique talent that should definitely be heard by a wider audience.
The songs blend, country, pop, Americana (whatever that is) and blues. The band tonight are on form with special props to the fiddle player duelling throughout with Millsap’s guitar.
Difficult to pick a highlight from an exceptional 90 minutes but ‘Hades Pleads’ is a kick ass stomper and ‘I hope I die’ brings the mood down perfectly which gives the evening a great light and shade.
A top night with a talented young star for the future who perfectly combines, great songs, great licks and a uniquely special voice.
Well my wife and I were front row beer can sitting on the stage so our view of Parker was about as good as it gets. First time we have seen him been listening to his songs for awhile since a good friend who sings in bars in the Tampa Bay area recommended him to us. All I can say is Parker is outstanding. I'm 73 saw Elvis seven times first time in 56 last time in 75 and I can honestly say Parker possesses that same sort of charisma. He's obviously talented with a unique voice. When you hear a song on the radio you immediately know it's Parker. But there are many talented artists but not so many with that special charisma that makes one a star. Also I was impressed with the new songs he performed. Have a feeling his coming album could be a major breakout. Will be closely following his career.
We loved the venue, Terminal Two West. Great sound, crowded but no jostling, easy to get a drink, clean bathrooms. Much to recommend.
I'd say we would return to the venue but at 73 we decided afterwards that's our last standing up show. It was a tough go. We've seen a large number of concerts over the years and will say both Parker and Terminal Two were outstanding.
So much talent packed into this 26 year old body his and tight 4pc combo that when you see them build and build to some seriously unique cuts you can’t help but think...’no WAY he’s this good!’
He is; they are. Bringing a lot more R-N-R than previous tours, it’s a cool factor to have a fiddle this prominent in the band.
Go see this show! I emceed the gig and I have a new friend right outta Purcell, OK!
What an amazing show! The Heights Theater is small and intimate so the atmosphere was amazing - felt like he was 'hanging out' with us. Music was incredible and he played old and new to make the audience happy. I enjoyed every minute of the concert and will be sure to see him live again. The fiddle player was absent, but it didn't take away from the show. Parker Millsap is one talented young man!
Great evening and a very good venue. ((O’Meara). Parker, and all of them on very good form. What a voice he has.
A problem with the snare drum caused a slight change in the set list but it was all fine and didn’t spoil the evening.
We saw him last year and were keen to see him again and hear his new songs. Looking forward to the next visit. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Parker was phenomenal! He is a generational talent in all aspects, and delivered the best show I’ve ever seen. His stage presence was fantastic as he spent the show interacting with the audience and bringing laughs along with the music. His vocal abilities are unmatched in today’s age and they were on full display in the intimate venue. Best ever!
