Shortly after the release of their first album Charmed and Strange, I had the opportunity to see Yoav at the Lincoln Theatre in Washington, DC. I didn't at the time realize how lucky I was that I went to this concert, as they have not returned to my area since, but at the time I had simply heard a couple songs and decided to check them out live as an afterthought.
Yoav is one of the electronic bands that plays real instruments and puts on a great performance for the audience. In fact, he uses a guitar to create the electronic sounds rather than electronics to create guitar sounds, an interesting reversal, and one that is fascinating to actually watch.
At times he appeared to be almost dancing with the guitar. Of course, his wonderfully clear voice and fantastic pitch gave the melodic quality to the music that made it an overall wonderful performance. Again, this is his natural voice which sounds so perfect it seems to be electronic.
The energy was amazing, and as I left I said I couldn't wait until then next time he was in town so I could see him perform again. I am still waiting, and would still love to have the opportunity to repeat this great concert experience.
I liked the music and his voice very much, especially his early stuff. One thing I needed to get used to is that it takes a while at the beginning of each song to piece together the various loops. This creates a rather slow pace of the whole concert, with not much interaction, or a constant flow of songs. The good thing about this is that you practically watch him recreate all his music.
