The word that jumps to mind when describing watching Lene Lovich perform is: hypnotising. Other than the fact that the crowd obviously loved her, all I can remember is having my eyes glued to the stage the entire time. She is a very intense performer with crazy outfits, dramatic makeup and hair and, overall, fantastic energy on stage! She never stayed still for long, constantly jumping around the stage and skyrocketing the energy of the room – she is a performer that demands attention!
Lene Lovich first rose to fame as part of the new wave music scene of the late 1970s and early 80s. To date, her most popular song is ‘Lucky Number’ (1978) and I highly recommend this as a starting point if you’re not familiar with her music yet. ‘Shadows and Dust’, her most recent album, was released in 2005 and it’s really worth a listen to as well – you can see how her music has adapted since her beginnings in the 70s.
She will be touring around Italy this December so there are opportunities to see her then but next March (2015) she will be returning to the UK and touring around here. She will be playing at a lot of different cities and venues so there really is no excuse not to see her! Go along, you won’t regret it – this woman knows how to put on a good show!
