Went to Subtronics' show at Echostage, last night (August 27, 2022). I will probably never not love Subtronics' performances, but, last night will likely be the last show that of his that I will go to. While his set was great, as usual, he's become widely-known enough that he's now attracting the wrong people to his shows. Last night was WAY too packed and WAY too full of people that don't know how to act at shows: 1) a show that packed makes it impossible to actually move around/dance and enjoy oneself; 2) I just don't want to deal with those types of people that his current level of popularity is now drawing.
Aside from the crowd density/composition aspect, the supporting lineup was sub-ideal. While the supporting-acts were all decent - each was good and I would probably have been happy to see each, individually, at a place like Soundcheck - the order they were presented in was all wrong. We got there in time to see Austeria, Artix and G-Space Bass/Smith play. However, the placement of G-Space Bass/Smith's B2B in the lineup needed to have happened either earlier in the evening or the end of the evening. Slotting them in directly before Subtronics completely screwed the energy of the night. They were completely the wrong tempo slotted where they were.
Ultimately, I can't see myself going to another of his touring-stops until the crowd-density and crow-composition goes back to something more like what it was even just a year ago. Until then, likely the only time we'll see him in person again is if he's part of a larger festival where he's not the focus of the festival.
