Bachman-Turner Overdrive has been takin’ care of business and pleasing fans with their overdriven boogie rock for quite sometime now and they are continuing to rock out as hard as ever.
When soft rock and pop music flooded the airwaves in the 1970’s, Bachman-Turner Overdrive came along to save the day with their hard rock music. They are known for getting really gritty sounds on their distorted electric guitars and play direct, but catchy chord progressions. They also can get some funky swamp music sounds as well as create some face melting, heavy metal guitar riffs. Their lead singer, Randy Bachman, sings in a raspy, howling manner similar to the style of John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival. Bachman-Turner Overdrive also use interesting musical techniques such as call and response, which includes the singer singing a line of the music and the guitar player replicating the melody on his guitar right after.
Bachman-Turner Overdrive’s performance is usually simple and straight forward. They are down to earth people playing catchy rock music to their working class fans. The band builds great depth to their performance through vocal harmonies that are keenly incorporated into their music. They often play in a boogie musical style that makes their whole audience want to dance along to the music. Their song’s choruses are also highly catchy allowing great opportunities for their audience to belt out sing along tunes with the band. The band also knows how to work a crowd. They always seem to be engaging their audience with stage banter and thanking them thoroughly for their support. The band’s live shows clearly show why they have gained such critical and commercial success. They have sold over 30 million albums worldwide and have strongly influenced other musical acts. They will be sure to crank out all the tunes we love so much such as “Let it Ride” and “Roll on Down the Highway”. If you haven’t seen Bachman-Turner Overdrive live before, then “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet”.
Apart from his association with The Guess Who (popular rock band in the late 1960s) and later Bachman-Turner Overdrive, the Canadian musician Randy Bachman is well-recognized for his numerous solo works. Now in his seventies, Bachman is like a kind, round-faced next-door neighbor on stage, barding out those memorable moments in life with his brief and lilt guitar sound. Bachman revealed in an interview with MIX magazine that his signature guitar sound is influenced by the violin training he received in his early life. “Violin is mostly slow, melodic stuff. So my guitar solos tend to be smooth, slow lines.” Said Bachman. Those gentle tones give Bachman’s songs a classical flavor and contribute to his hits such as "American Woman", "These Eyes", "She Comes Undone" and so on.
One of the treats of going to music legend’s concerts is to enjoy interesting banters in-between songs. Years of experience washes away artists’ common nervousness on stage and brings valuable easiness along with beautiful melodies. Like in his 2009 live at the Commodore Ballroom, Bachman told audiences that “These Eyes” were written while he was waiting for his date to get ready. Those lovely anecdotes came from a musician’s rich life experience and served like cherries on top of great performances. For a night of classic folk rock, Randy Bachman’s live is the right choice.
