Felix Cartal

In 2000, when Cartal was 13 years old and attending New Westminster Secondary School, he joined a band called Dysfunctional playing bass in the punk and hardcore scene, they were named after a sticker they had found. The young band gained quite a following in Northern Vancouver and after releasing a couple of punk album they eventually decided to split. However in 2006 they reformed into a more progressive, The Mars Volta/Pink Floyd-inspired group named Orange Orange however this was also short lived as after they released their first album they broke up. Whilst being involved with these bands Cartal was experimenting with Reason and Cubase, he became inspired by similarities of atmosphere and energy between the dance and punk scenes and started to develop a way to incorporate these into a new genre.

After enrolling at the University of British Columbia (where he majored in English), Cartal started producing his own dance tracks. He set the blogosphere alight in 2006 when he collaborated with early supporters MSTRKRFT with original tracks such as 'Moss vs. Tree' and 'Parisienne'. In the UK Cartal signed with a booking agent and started playing weekend shows across Britain and Europe. Incredibly his third ever show was opening for Justice in front of 4,000 people so when he returned home to his native Canada he had become an underground star.

Despite a smaller number of albums, is actual discography is huge as he has been continuously creating and mixing music and releasing it as EPs throughout his career. He has also remixed music by some of the most famous artists including The Killers, Britney Spears and The All American Rejects.
