Irish folk music is a genre that I’ve grown up with and love, and Wallis Birds fusion of rock and acoustic music with the style is refreshing and a showcase of incredible talent. From the moment she played and sang the first chord on her guitar, it was evident that the stage is where she’s at home, and the ease and confidence with which she performed was absolutely stunning. The vocal harmonies that the band all had together were beautiful, and there were sections that weren’t on the recordings that they improvised, and it really showed how talented they all are to be able to craft that on the spot.
When she played The Circle, she called out to the audience to sing along, and she dropped out of her guitar part on the chorus to hold out the microphone to the crowd to get everyone singing along with her which was awesome, as it was actually a pretty intimate venue.
The highlight of the show has to be when Bird hopped down off of the stage and made her way into the middle of the crowd, and played an acoustic song from amongst us, where she held the whole audience in silence and admiration. It was an incredible moment, and the confidence that she carried made it work wonderfully.
