It’s evident from the way the boys work so tightly together that Adam, Jack and Ryan, the boys that make up AJR, are in fact brothers. Their indie pop music grabbed me the first time I heard their recordings, with the almost barbershop techniques that they use, harmonising flawlessly together to create a really original sound. The combination of vocals, ukulele, guitar, and electronic music makes their sound exciting and original, and with each track, you never know what to expect.
They opened their set with I’m Ready, and got everyone singing along and clapping to a beat they provided in the penultimate chorus. Their voices are incredible and effortless, and as soon as we’d picked up the melody in the audience, they were harmonising around us, which was awesome, as it was kind of like the audience were holding the song together.
They played a good selection of tracks from both I’m Ready, and Break You Down, and everyone in the audience seemed to know all the lyrics, so they atmosphere was electric, with everyone singing along excitedly. They were super friendly, and great at interacting with us in the audience, making everyone in the crowd feel really special.
Fantastic,
This show was an absolute delight from start to end. The charisma from frank maid the whole room liven up, and he gave such a personal performance that can only be felt on stage. Cavetown was also amazing and very personal. Cavetown was like a cool summer breeze and hobo Johnson and the love makers were like the best kind of coolant storm you could ever hope for.
