Quite why Nottingham beatmaker Matt Cutler chooses to go by the stage name Lone isn’t entirely clear; perhaps it’s a reference to him going solo after the breakup of his old band, Kids in Tracksuits, or just a nod to the fact that he stands alone on stage, but it’s difficult to envisage how he could actually feel alone at one of his live shows, given the energy and love that’s so frequently extended to him by the crowd. Away from the live scene, collaborations with the likes of Azaelia Banks have made a name for Cutler, but he remains in his element in a packed club; he’s a fixture at some of the hottest venues in the UK, and has made several appearances at Manchester superclub The Warehouse Project. He’ll be back there in October, and the crowd should expect his intelligent approach to EDM to carry over onto the stage; he blends cuts from his six albums to date cleverly, with his sets smartly crafted with the sole objective of working the crowd into a veritable frenzy.
