Yannick Nézet-Séguin continues his complete Mahler symphony cycle at Carnegie Hall with Symphony No. 3—the most ambitious of all Mahler’s creations. “Imagine a work of such magnitude that it actually mirrors the whole world,” the composer said of his masterpiece, which culminates in one of music’s most powerful climaxes after six breathtaking movements. “From the creation of the world, to the eternity of the last movement, [Mahler’s Third] is designed to embrace and embody the entire universe ... Every time I conduct this, I cannot hold [back] my tears,” says Nézet-Séguin.
