Frenzel Rhomb was in town! I was all over those tickets. My brother is a huge fan, so it was great to surprise him. He really likes foreign music so an Australian punk rock band is right up his alley. I'm just glad they are touring, my brother was worried when one member had to get brain surgery. Apparently he had tapeworms in his brain? I don't know, I only barely listen to him, and he could have been messing with me. Anyway, we got to the concert and it was pretty cool.
The singer had weird dreadlocks, but they sounded pretty cool and the lighting choices they made could have been worse- lots of flashing purple and white lights. They were really energetic, the lot of them, walking across the stage as they sang, playing some really fast and clearly difficult songs. The venue was pretty dark, but I think that's standard for rock concerts. The crowd went pretty wild, they were really liking the music.
My brother couldn't stop jumping and throwing "rocker hands" what ever you actually call them. I'd take him again. Now that I've seen them live I might even tolerate him playing them really loudly at all hours of the night.
Australian punk rock outfit Frenzal Rhomb are without a doubt one of the strangest and most bizarre acts on the circuit. They describe their sound as a merger of pop, punk and rock yet the lyrical content seems to be from another planet altogether. They have been working as a unit since the mid-90s so the project clearly has longevity and although the albums have missed the charts, they have still had the opportunity to travel worldwide as they are highly acclaimed by a cult-like fanbase.
Fractured albums including 'A Man's Not a Camel' and 'Smoko at the Pet Food Factory' create the majority of the setlist tonight and the fans all seem to know the material well. The four musicians throw themselves around the stage and invade the personal space of the front row yet within the chaos they do not miss a beat all evening. It is a very weird live experience yet for fans of the unconventional and those tired of the static gig conventions, Frenzy Rhomb are definitely ones to go and see.
The show was alright. Frenzal went off and jay was mad as ever the only disappointment was AGAON LINDSAY. who was busy sucking divk. So he had to get a fill in to play
