Unfortunately I missed most of the support act Footprints In The Custard, but they had obviously done a great job in getting the packed room in the mood for a night of madness.
Then Princess Luxury took to the stage, the intro music started and the rest of the band capered onto the stage and immediately started the audience participation getting the crowd to roar along with the intro track before launching straight into the opening track off their new album Galactic Hunt, the blisteringly fast Rise.
The set was a good mix of new and old and every song was performed with the frenetic energy Scarecrow fans have come to love including Kraven Morrdeth leading the crowd in a march all around the circular stage during the song War as well as bringing a happier tone to Blacken The Everything by starting a 'Yeah' chant in between every line of the song.
One lucky pair of fans were awarded a copy of the live DVD "Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Crows" for being the best to waltz along to Dance of the Cyclops.
Another fan was brought onto stage and lambasted for being sat in Starbucks next to the singer of fellow Nottingham madmen Lawnmower Deth whilst wearing a LD tee shirt and being completely oblivious. He then got to dance along to an impromptu rendition of Foxy Lady before being sent on his way.
An Evil Scarecrow gig would not be the same without a spot of synchronised sillyness and the crowd were not disappointed to end the gig with robot dancing to Robototron and crab scuttling to Crabulon (along with an appearance from the human-crab hybrid herself scuttling around behind the band).
Another classic Evil Scarecrow gig and a great crowd to mark the start of their "Road to Download" tour, these guys just never fail to delight.
In a packed yardbirds venue for their traditional New Year Show evil Scarecrow showed why they are such a top live act. Not just great heavy metal music but an evening of pure Theatre. From the opening number guitarist and singer Dr hell held the audience in the palm of his hand all night. After opening with a couple of great Scarecrow songs the show really got going playing the crowd favorite end level boss,a tribute to the classic computer game the Legend of Zelda. With the main character from the game on stage acting out action sequences from the game involving lots of very physical audience participation. Indeed most of the songs involve the audience in some way. The show really took off, literally with the use of an anti-gravity machine, giant robots flying saucers and astronauts there is not a dull moment in the action-packed show. Finishing with the show stopping crabulon, an evil Scarecrow concert is quite unlike anything else you will see. A great heavy metal band who have brought out some excellent albums they are a band you really need to experience live their New Year gig is the best way to burn off the Christmas calories cheaper than going to the gym and a lot more fun.
