After attending a vocational school in Stuttgart, Germany, Waibel began recording music when he was 13 after teaching himself how to play the piano and the guitar. Using the pseudonym Lyr1c, the pop and rap singer released two mixtapes for free public download, the first entitled “Trash” in 2009 and “Meine Musik” in 2011. The latter of the two caught the attention of renowned German hip-hop musician Kaas who introduced the rapper to Andrej Schweizer of the independent label Chimperator Productions.
The label announced it had signed a new hip-hop artist and fuelled the speculative buzz before publishing Cro’s name in October 2011. In November 2011 Cro and Chimperator Productions had finished the music video for the song “Easy” directed by Harris Hodovic, which would prove to be the rapper’s biggest commercial success. The video when released on Youtube received over 500,000 views in less than two weeks, and over 12,000,000 views by the start of 2012.
The video and song were released ahead of an upcoming mixtape, along with the tracks “Hi Kids” and “Kein Benz”. The mixtape entitled “Easy” got its released at the beginning of December 2011, and Cro singed to major label Universal Music Publishing Group in early 2012. The release was followed by a tour named “Pandas gone wild!” where the rapper was accompanied by Psaiko.Dino.
Cro’s debut album entitled “Raop”, which is a blend of the words Rap and Pop was released on July 6, 2012, all five singles from the album reached the German Top 100 chart, including “Du”, “King of Raop” and “Meine Zeit”. The album was voted Album of the Year by MTV, and a Swiss Music Award for "Best International Urban Album" as well as being named Newcomer of the Year by iTunes in 2012.

I'm writing this in english so others english natives who are considering can understand:
I bought tickets for this concert before I even came to germany. About 6 months before actually, but 8 months before the concert. I was so excited to experience my first concert ever and not only that but in a foreign country with one of the top artists who helped me learn german.
The line wasnt too long before doors opened and there was hardly anyone at the shirt stand so I was able to get my much anticipated cro shirt and hoodie no problem. Not even too expensive for a concert. 25euro for a tshirt and 50euro for a hoodie.
I was a little confused on where to go but i just asked an employee and he directed me straight there.
During the openers they had a light that was shining directly in my section's faces so we literally could not see anything for that whole hour. This wasnt a problem when Cro came on though.
Throughout the entire even there were no crazy fans running around screaming and causing accidents, which was surprising to me. Maybe germans are more chill with concerts. Or Cro fans.
Cro himself sounded as good if not better life. Perfect voice just wow. He played so many songs and a lot of older ones which i really appreciated.
Overall this was a fantastic concert. So glad my first experience got to be this one.
Cro is tearing up the German rap scene with his mix of clever lyrics and pop tunes. While more hardcore rappers dominate much of the German scene, Cro brings a lighter, more fun type of rap into the mix, which uses pop elements, a genre he’s named “Raop”. His songs are all upbeat and generally about having fun or picking up pretty girls, so seeing him live is like one giant party. On stage, he always wears a backwards hat with a panda mask and you can’t help but wonder what he looks like under there. But other than the panda mask, he doesn’t have any other weird or outlandish show elements and keeps it all pretty simple. There aren’t any crazy lightshows or dancers; it’s just him and a live backing band. His popularity is undeniable, and every German speaker in the house sings along with every word, especially with his newest hit “Traum” which means dream from the album he released this year, Melodie. But don’t worry if you don’t speak German, because it really doesn’t matter and you will end up dancing along with every track anyway. Hey, maybe you’ll even pick up a few words of German here and there.
Carlo Waibel, better known by his stage name Cro is one of the most exciting rappers to emerge from Germany's underground in many years. With an enticing stage persona and short but solid discography, he commands a huge following whenever he performs and always pull large crowds to his sets when he stops off at festivals. With his recognisable demonic panda head mask, he steps onto stage and the crowd instantly begin to cheer before their sounds are cut off by the thumping bass of the accompanying DJ.
Playing his own brand of music dubbed 'rapop' at times the audience are able to sing along to recognisable hooks whilst at others it is all about Cro demonstrating his freestyling abilities. He keeps the crowd central though to the operation as he definitely seems to perform better when they are onside and engaged. The roars fuel him to perform with further energy and aggression and as he jumps, they jump proving he has made a solid connection. Finishing on his number one single 'Whatever' the whole audience is jumping and singing, hoping Cro never has to leave the stage.
Amazing show! Great performances, perfect sound, really good light and fire show. Cro was absolutely perfect. Traveled for his concert from another state and I will do that again.Just the audience was kind of boring.
