Why is this man not more famous?
I came across Andy White back in the 90's on various Cooking Vinyl sampler albums and have had it in my mind to find out and hear more. The wonder of Songkick is that you hear about gigs from people in your collection, so I found the opportunity to see him at the Half Moon in Putney. It was a great occasion - there's a range of songs from half spoken, soft romantic songs to more strident rockier numbers. It was mainly Andy and his 12 string acoustic guitar (with effects, of course), but he was joined on stage by his son on drums for several numbers (and to make it a real family affair, by his sister on backing vocals in the encore). The atmosphere was pretty mellow but totally absorbing. His presentation is low-key, but he has some dialogue with the audience - he comes across as really likeable and humble. The songs are intelligent, tuneful, engaging. It was just a shame there weren't more there to enjoy.
I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and would definitely see him again.
