Biografía
Temples have worked their way to this high point in a relatively short amount of time, making their achievements all the more impressive. Formed by the duo of frontman James Edward Bagshaw and bassist Thomas Edward James Walmsley in 2012, Temples originally started as a studio project however additional members were soon added as their popularity began to build.
After releasing some home recordings onto Youtube, they began a partnership with Heavenly Recordings’ main man Jeff Barrett who went on to release the band’s debut single ‘Shelter Song’. With members Samuel Lloyd Toms and Adam Smith enlisted, the band could now begin to play live and continued to build their following through gigging. After dates with the likes of Suede and Kasabian, they finally embarked on their own headline tour in October 2013.
With the support of UK publications like NME and DIY, the band really began to develop a strong following and managed to hit 7 in the UK album charts with their debut album ‘Sun Structures’ before heading out on the 2014 NME tour in support of Interpol and Royal Blood. Not content with dominating just the UK, they soon set out to broaden their reach, playing dates in Europe and Australia and even appearing on American TV when they played on The Tonight Show.
An unwillingness to compromise of their sound and vision has lead Temples to being one of the biggest new acts in the UK and if they continue, Johnny and Noel might not be the only famous fans they find themselves with.

Temples is a band with great promise, but they're not quite ready for primetime. I understand they just recently started touring and are probably learning as they go, but they shouldn't be headlining anywhere until they get their live act together.
I discovered Temples this past year and, as a child of the 60s, fell in love with their music. I purchased tickets in June for an October concert because I was sure they would sell out. Not sure if they sold out Irving Plaza but the place was pretty filled up - with people of all ages.
The sound was awful. They need to get a new engineer. I've been to other concerts at small venues where the first band had terrible sound and the headliner sounded amazing, so I know it's not the venue's acoustics.
Temples doesn't have a big catalog but they managed to fill an hour with their "old" stuff and some new. I think they're sick of playing the same stuff over and over, night after night, and it showed.
There was no camaraderie with the audience or with each other. At one point, the lead singer said he had never heard such a quiet audience in between songs and wanted to know if that is a "New York thing". Uhh, no - the audience is usually continuing to applaud while the band gears up for the next song.
As I said, Temples has a a lot of promise but I don't think I'd go see them again until they have a few more years of touring under their belts. They're good musicians, especially the drummer and bass player. I wish them all the best.
I really enjoyed seeing Temples last night. It was everything I had hoped for especially with the opening performance by Drenge. Drenge built an awesome vibe for those who were there for the Temples set. The temples set was amazing! I gotta give these guys a lot of respect especially since I am a musician myself - these guys just came back from playing Tokyo the show before they came here to chicago and touring non stop for months internarionally so they did look a little bit out of it when I saw them at a record signing a couple of hours before the show but, they didn't seem to be phased at all when they were up on stage they still played an amazing show. The show had been sold out for some time and I was really bummed out I was not going to see them the only option was to buy some tickets from a re-seller for 2x the price. I had never seen Temples before so I was a little hesitant at first but I took a gamble and bought a ticket and I gotta say after seeing them perform live I have no regrets. I am a huge fan of psychedelic music and these guys I believe are going to keep getting bigger such as other psychedelic bands I love like tame impala and MGMT. Another reason I believe I made a great choice in checking them out is because if I am right about their future success I doubt they will be playing many more up close intimate venues like subterranean anymore. I can see them playing shows in the future at a bigger venue like the riviera theatre or the Aragon.
I both discovered and found great love for Temples at Wilderness 2013. Having found myself lost at a Baby Comedy Theatre I found my ears had trained themselves onto what turned out to be "Keep In The Dark" being played on the main stage.
Curious and loving what I was hearing I proceeded to make my way over to the stage and enjoy the whole set. Amongst the shower of psychedelic musical delights, I was introduced to more of their great work including "Shelter Song" and "Mesmerise". The crowd were extremely receptive to their performance which was one of the best of the day and a highlight of the whole festival.
I've since bought their album "Sun Structures" (one of my favourite albums of 2013) and look forward to their next batch of lovely stuff. So do yourself a favour and check them out live when you can.
Some bands you want to see because you like their music, but some bands you want to see because they are great in concert. This definitely applies to the Temples! The Temples are awesome live! They had a live art demonstration during their entire concert, which the artists synched with their music. Basically, they had 3 guys that were pouring paint and spinning plates. Then they had a projector combine the 3 plates, forming a multi-layer constantly changing work, which they used as the backdrop for their concert. We saw them on Halloween, so they dressed up in masks/crazy(er) hair. It was also their last night on tour. I appreciate seeing them in a smaller venue.
Temples have been one of my most-liked bands for a while now. I bought tickets for this show as soon as they came out. Last night fell completely flat for me, I found the show so un-entertaining that my partner and I left early. Technical issues with a guitar for the duration of the first and second songs made for uncomfortable viewing and listening and strange dialogue between the band and the audience inbetween songs exaggerated this feeling.
I am disappointed that I didn't enjoy the show, and yeah, I appreciate it's my own opinion, but overall I found it completely underwhelming and won't be rushing to see Temples again.
Not quite sure how they do it... The combination of this 70s rock appearance with flamboyant entree, the somewhat eerie atmosphere from the rythm guitarist showing his back to the public generally, and the deep, dark, short inputs the bassist sometimes contributes through the mic together created an atmosphere I do not understand. I think it's positive.
They absolutely nailed it with their tracklist, showcasing every single banger they have produced.
I wonder if the singer really did get upset when we didn't recognise the song with the first few notes
anyway, amazing concert, 10/10 would visit again
GROOVY MAN!!!! Absolutely AMAZING!! The show was sooooooo much fun!! My friend and I were transported to another era!! The band sounded great, they had a fantastic stage presence, and were sooooo nice!! We met them after the show and we got to chat with them and they signed my setlist, and wished me a happy birthday!! We took pics and it was the BEST birthday night I could have had!! Will definitely see them again, and would highly recommend!!!
Such a great band they surpassed my expectations, I've been listening to their music since 2 years ago and this was the 1st chance to see them live, now I positive that they've become one of my favorite bands plus everything was perfect the place (Lincoln Hall), the sound, the staff, the food, and drinks. I had a great time, It was a night I won't ever forget.
This gig was top! Lots of fun, good vibes, great hair and great jackets. Would definitely go again. Exceeded my expectations completely they all seemed like lovely blokes. Also the opening act was super cool and good I love finding new musicians to follow this way its always a nice surprise.
Best.Show.Ever!
Psichedelia meets powerful rockandroll. Skilled artists made a hell of a show. As we have become accustomed, music hall to Williamsburg sounds incredible and these guys rocked out the house last night.
2 thumbs up, don't miss it you will regreat it!
