Biografía
They eventually found themselves in Boone, North Carolina where they caught the attention of folk icon Doc Watson while playing in front of a pharmacy. He invited the band to play at his festival, MerleFest, helping to launch their career. Shortly thereafter the band was hired to entertain crowds between shows at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN.
It's been over twenty years since these humble beginnings. The band has gone on to receive the honor of being inducted as members of the Grand Ole Opry, and have won two Grammy Awards: "Best Folk Album" for Remedy (2014) and "Best Long Form Music Video" for Big Easy Express (2013). Additionally, their classic single, "Wagon Wheel", received the RIAA's Double-Platinum certification in 2019 for selling over 2,000,000 copies while the band’s debut album O.C.M.S. has been certified Gold (500,000 copies).
Old Crow Medicine Show has toured the world playing renowned festivals and venues such as: Bonnaroo, Farm Aid, Red Rocks Amphitheater, Cambridge Folk Festival, Coachella, London's Roundhouse, The Ryman Auditorium, The Barclays Center, New Orleans Jazz Fest, The Fox Theater Atlanta, The Kennedy Center Concert Hall, Summerstage in Central Park NYC, Forecastle, the Newport Folk Festival, and several appearances on A Prairie Home Companion. They've toured with artists such as Willie Nelson & Family, Brandi Carlile, Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers, John Prine, The Avett Brothers and others. The band also took part in the historic Railroad Revival Tour, traveling from California to New Orleans on a vintage train, which was captured in the Emmet Malloy directed Grammy award-winning documentary, Big Easy Express.
Old Crow Medicine Show now has six studio albums to their name, three of which were released by Nettwerk Records - O.C.M.S. (2004) and Big Iron World (2006) produced by David Rawlings, and Tennessee Pusher (2008) produced by Don Was. Following that, ATO Records released the Ted Hutt produced, Carry Me Back (2012), on which the band continued to craft classic American roots music and Remedy (2014), also produced by Ted Hutt.
Old Crow Medicine Show was signed to Columbia in 2017 and immediately delivered a full-length tribute to Boy Dylan’s Blonde on Blonde, entitled 50 Years Of Blonde On Blonde (2017). During the same year, Nettwerk also released a Best Of Old Crow Medicine Show compilation. A year later, the band released the Dave Cobb produced Volunteer (2018) via Columbia. The band’s latest release Live At The Ryman (2019) was released on October 4th on Columbia Records via The Orchard.

Seen one Old Crow Medicine Show performance seen 'em all. How different can a string band doing a hillbilly act be?
Well totally different in fact. This was the third time seeing The Old Crows and they just keep getting better and better and the audience seemed to have grown along with them. Sure everyone who knows them knows the modern bluegrass classic Wagon Wheel and now the whole crowd belts it out. What surprised me was how many people were singing along to songs like Sweet Amarillo from the latest offering Remedy to more obscure tracks like Raise A Ruckas and Big Time In The Jungle from much earlier albums. This was a night of all age groups having a good time to the joyous tones of mandolins, fiddles and banjos, the shrills from harmonica's and even heaven forbid to the purists a set of drums on some songs. Even so called ballads built up into a crescendo to form a wall of noise.
What is the appeal of such an act? To be honest most people unlike myself wouldn't sit down and listen to Old Crow album after Old Crow album. The songs as a whole are easy to pick up and have the usual references of southern towns, cities and states and tell the tales of drink, drugs, women and good old country occupations of tobacco growing or cotton picking or the seemingly obsessive southern trait of writing about the Vietnam war. Well quite simply this music and this band are fun. To me string bands have replaced the Ska music of my youth as a way of me having a good time at a gig. From an entertainment perspective the Old Crow Medicine Show are the best damn string band on the planet.
Old Crow Medicine Show has been one of my favorite bands for a long time now, so I have been looking forward to their show at the world famous Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado since I got tickets through early on-sale in January. And they were everything a Red Rocks show should be!
It rained (poured) during the opening act, the Grammy Award winning Carolina Chocolate Drops, but cleared up just as OCMS came on stage. Great choice for an opening act, too. That Rhiannon Giddens can sing! Love the Carolina Chocolate Drops, and they kept the energy up even in the rain.
Old Crow Medicine Show’s high-energy, boot-stomping bluegrass kept the audience on our feet and rocking out the entire time, and helped us forget, or just not care, that we were soaking wet from head to toe. I would do it again, even in the rain, in a heartbeat. OMCS even surprised the audience by bringing out Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, who picks the banjo. Who knew?!? They closed out the show with their own rendition of John Denver’s “Rocky Mountain High”. No surprise there, as it is a pretty common occurrence at Red Rocks, but it is still fun to hear how different bands of different genres interpret the tune.
Bottom line -- two thumbs way, way up for Old Crow Medicine Show and Carolina Chocolate Drops!
Old Crow Medicine Show is always a great time. They always play at great venues and put on a brilliant show that never disappoints. I have seen them as a headliner and as part of a set in a music festival. They have a great following of fans and the show is always tons of fun. They make great music, all the artists are talented and play all types of music with great original songs and classic covers like "Wagon Wheel." If you're looking to have a great time and dance to great uplifting music this is your show. They have been perfecting their stage show for years and are masters and a staple in the bluegrass rockabilly scene. They play a beautiful blend of different music styles and the show is complete experience from the lot to the crown and the stage. It is a fantastic experience and a band I would see at every oppertunity. Look for them in a line up at a music festival and I guarantee it will be a great weekend. Dress light and wear your dancing shoes, get down and have fun. It is impossible to leave an Old Crow Medicine Show in a bad mood, they will lift you up and the beautiful energy of the music and the fans will keep you flying through your week.
The group started their Tour in my Town Tulsa, Oklahoma. Their music and show suggests they are the best bluegrass band in the business. The new album Remedy which they played a number of songs from is fabulous. It has wonderful thoughtful lyrics that demonstrate the populism of their sound and the special meaning that only people who have had those experiences or been involved with that can feel. I love Warden. touching and sensitive. life in the gutter. Sweet Amarillo hit me hard. Forty years ago my first wife barrel raced in the rodeo while i pursued her. The tributes to Woody Guthrie, Bob Wills and of course Eric Claptons great hit (that he got when he lived in Tulsa) "Living on Tulsa Time" demonstrates their sensitivity to our local music scene. Great success to this group and its tour. As they said Bob Dylan wrote, "You boys are doing something right!
Old Crow Medicine Show is one of the best live acts I've ever seen. Like good comedians do, they took some time to research our local area and used that knowledge on stage to relate to the crowd, to make jokes, and to add songs to their set list (from local musicians). That was the unexpected part of the great show. What I did anticipate from watching live clips was the energy. Having just seen Nickel Creek a few days before the difference in energy that all the musicians exuded was significant. They all seemed to be loving every minute of the live jam session and totally drew the crowd in. I dare anyone to go to one of these concerts and try not to dance; I really don't think it is possible. I would see them again and again! Whether you like bluegrass/country/americana music or not, you will be entertained!
O.C.M.S NEVER disappoints. They, along with Brandi Carlile, put on a proper hootenanny. The venue, Kresge Auditorium, in Interlochen is a great, outdoor with a roof, venue. Old Crow always incorporates regional favorites. I saw them a couple of years ago at Red Rocks Amphitheater, in Morrison Colorado and they ended with the John Denver's appropriate Rocky Mountain High. At Interlochen they added Gordon Lightfoot's The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Great, great show.
Old Crow Medicine Show were Amazing! Our seat were a little higher then i'm used to but the video screens were big enough to watch all the action on Stage. I was under the impression that They were the headliner. They sounded amazing and the we were surprised that there were so many OCMS fans in LA. Hopefully next time we can see them in a smaller venue.

Amazing show at Bristol last night! OCMS were as energetic, enthusiastic, talented, funny, and raucous as ever, and really "melted the church walls down" to use their words! If you every get the chance to go to one of their shows please do - real music played by real musicians, and going to their shows isn't just like going to any old gig, it's an experience!
Wow what a show. Blonde on Blonde is a brilliant album but the Old Crows interpretation was a tour de force. This was the first time we had seen them play live and the energy and musicianship was amazing. If you get an opportunity to see the band live you won't regret it and it will be one of the best nights you can have with your clothes on
Amazing awesome authentic experience!!!

Heartfelt FUN!
These guys play their music and that connects for the audience. We had a great time and highly recommend it. Lace up your dancing shoes and be ready to get your grove.
