Mindy Smith, an American singer songwriter, often plays acoustic shows, as she did in Idaho in 2012. She sat in the center of the well lit stage, a guitarist to her left and a percussionist/back up singer to her right. With no hesitation, they launched into a soft, beautiful version of “Pretending the Stars”. Mindy Smith's high, piping voice was well matched by the drummers' soft tone. While the singing was excellent, the musicianship was even better. Both the guitarist and Mindy Smith were talented on the guitar, their fingers softly coaxing complex, melodious sound from the wooden instruments. As the song came to a close, the audience cheered wildly. Mindy Smith's music has been called folk, bluegrass, Americana, country, rock, and alternative. She came into the spotlight when asked to sing a cover of “Jolene” on Just Because I'm A Woman, Dolly Parton's album. She then released her debut album, One Moment More, in 2004, followed by Long Island Shores in 2006, My Holiday in 2007, Stupid Love in 2009 and Mindy Smith in 2012. She has also written multiple singles, the most well known of which is “Come To Jesus”, released in 2004 and listed number 32 on Billboard's Adult Top 40 chart. An impressive artist, Mindy Smith is a must see musician for fans of Norah Jones and Patty Griffin.
