Not sure what to expect in the absence of Paul Weller would we be getting a better than average cover band ?
What we got was a first class show with a great mix of hits an absolutely top night, great show, great venue. Bruce Foxton has still got it in spades and Russell Hastings does a stellar job as frontman the absence of Paul Weller a distant memory !
What a fantastic night !
The Mods are a group of seasoned musicians - a tight band that obviously enjoy what they are doing which is infectious - A lot of friendly involvement with the crowd encouraging us to sing & dance along to a string of hits one after the other.
From the Small Faces, The Who, The Doors. The Stones with some Reggae & Ska thrown in for good measure.
Tim Huggins lead vocals was brilliant - Great voice & energy. John Kennard lead guitar did some amazing solo work. Together with Mickey Simmonds on keyboard & Steve Barnacle on bass.
Johnny Marter on Drums was the driving force behind it all - He did an incredible drum solo which equalled any of Ginger Baker's or of John Bonham's.
One thing that struck me was the range of different age groups that were ALL enjoying themselves Together - I would say from early 20's up to old codgers like me in 60's & 70's But we all danced our socks off. (Yes I can still cut a Rug).
If you get the chance to see them they are worth every penny you won't be disappointed.
Ivan.
