Dressed up as Teddy Boys in 1973, two groups, Choise and Golden Hammers brought together their bands to form the super-group Showaddywaddy. Because it was an amalgamation of the two groups, they had two sets of everything, from vocalists to drummers, and together they would play original songs, as well as re-worked covers of songs from the 50s and 60s.
When watching their live shows, you witness a very unique set. Before they even take the stage, you can see from all the instruments on stage, that it is going to be a very crowded stage, but once they take the stage and pick up their instruments it’s not as big as you thought it would be. Having two vocalists, your ears are constantly engaged, and on top of that the large band gives off a sound that completely surrounds you. Because the group has been around for so long, the crowd is a bit older, but if you are of my generation, you still recognize a large chunk of the songs they perform. Most of them are really upbeat and a lot of people will get up and dance, because you can’t seem to fight off the urge to move to the music.
As always they gave not 100% but more they are so professional funny Andy as always witty, they get the audience involved my grandson came once and said nana if you go again please let me come he loves them as much as me, if I could afford it I would go to every gig, and of course they greeted everyone signed autographs so pleaseant after an excellent show and before a long travel home, love my wadds cos its hey rock and roll x
I first saw Showaddywaddy in concert on 17th November 1978 at the iconic London Rainbow Theatre, at Finsbury Park.
All I remember is it was a fantastic show - great music with superb dance routines - and spotlights being shone on the audience !
Their official website lists around 4,000 gigs to date !! [although a few years are still to be added - so it'll likely be nearer 5,000]
