I am a big '80s band concert goer and when I heard Devo was going to be playing I had to go. Only one problem, I live in Glen Burnie, MD and the concert was in Carmel, IN. I didn't know when I would get a chance to see them so I bought my ticket and drove non-stop for 14 hours to get to the show. Needless to say the show was well worth it. They played all my favorite song (Peekaboo is my favorite) and they had plenty of antics while they were on stage. During one part Mark Motherbaugh brought out a bag of potato chips and shook the whole bag into the audience. I think I got some stuck in my teeth. They also played many other songs that I enjoyed thoroughly. The antics kept going with them egging us on to sing along with them during Gates of hell. After the concert was over I drove all the way back to Glen Burnie and went to bed. Devo ever comes here I will definitely come to see them. Also caught one of their yellow suits they tore off during the concert.
Get this! I actually believed that songkick was telling the truth when they sent me a notification that devo was doing one show in Chicago last night. I bought 2 tickets on ticketfly and spent the entire day driving.
Upon arrival at the "primary" night club, we entered to ask about the evenings show and when devo would take the stage. They kind of laughed and said "well it isn't the real devo, it's a dj." Imagine my surprise and disappointment. What a waste of time and gas not to mention a few other mishaps along the way. All of which could have been avoided if songkick had a clue about what they are doing! A total sham! Better check with the venue to be sure the band is really playing before buying tickets for shows advertised on songkick. (tried calling the primary nightclub many times prior to the show and they never did answer the phone)
Fantastic live show.. Was concerned they would be a bit past it, but they are every bit as lively, as energetic, an as engaging as in footage of their past gigs. Great showmen.
They played mainly early stuff, which would have pleased most people. Actually (and this is probably a rare complaint) I would have liked to have heard some of the new stuff and some of the less acclaimed 80s stuff. But that's just me- it was a crowd-pleasing set. Took two non-DEVO fans and they were really impressed, so they must have been doing something right.
