There are a lot of acts that dedicate their lives to covering rock and pop acts, but none are so unique as the Vitamin String Quartet. Consisting of three violins and a cello and based out of Los Angeles, California, the quartet has done a number of covers from AC/DC to Yellowcard. Their covers have also made their way into television such as Gossip Girl and Vampire Diaries.
The particular performance that I saw had them cover four songs: KISS’ “Rock and Roll All Night,” Evanescence’s “Bring Me To Life,” Coldplay’s “Clocks” and Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” What’s really cool about these covers, and really all of their covers, is that they don’t just cover the songs; they reinterpret the songs to make them unique. So much so, that I had a bit of a difficult time making out what songs they were performing.
Just like their covers, the show was classical meets modern. There were people of all walks life, all enjoying the music. I’m sure there were some people who had no idea what songs they were covering, but it didn’t matter. They are able to blur the lines between age groups and give people something that is enjoyable no matter what music you normally listen to.
