Started in 1998 as the solo project of The Get Up Kids’ keyboardist, James Dewees, Reggie and the Full Effect released the album “Greatest Hits 1984-1987” in 1998 on Second Nature Recordings. The following record, entitled “Promotional Copy” was released in 2000 and due to the nature of the album art had resulted in people being confused as to the album being a real copy. Additionally, when fans actually bought the disc for their third album, “Under The Tray,” they were shocked to find that there was no disc waiting for them in its usual resting place but instead, had been placed under the tray.
Inspired by Dewees’ divorce, Reggie and The Full Effect released their fourth studio album entitled “Songs Not To Get Married To” in 2005. After its release, the band set out on promotional touring, including shows with bands such as My Chemical Romance, Hellogoodbye and Alkaline Trio. After initially being shelved by their label, Vagrant Records, the band released “Last Stop: Crappy Town” in 2008. Also that year, the band announced that they would be embarking on their last tour.
Post Reggie and the Full Effect, Dewees worked on a number of projects, including writing a full album for his British electropop alter-ego "Fluxuation." However, in 2010 Reggie and the Full Effect performed again for the first time since 2008 at a New Year’s Eve show at the Theatre Of Living Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They followed up with this by going on a 5 show tour in 2013, as well as a release of a new album entitled “No Country For Old Musicians.”

I’ve followed The Get up Kids for a while, and when I heard that the keyboardist James Dewees was creating a new project, I was excited to see what they’d been doing. I wasn’t aware that they’d been going since the late 90s, so had a lot to catch up on, but I was really pleasantly surprised with their fresh sound with a fusion of punk, pop, indie rock, and electronica breaking the conventions of a single genre. I first started listening to Under the Tray, as that was the album they’d just released when I first heard of them, so I was pretty excited to see what else they had to show in their performance.
They opened the show with the title track from Last Stop: Crappy Town, which had everyone singing along straight away. Watching them perform live, there were loads of awesome things I picked up on that I just didn’t realise in a recording. For instance it was awesome to watch Amanda Hassee switch from the keyboard to the synth flawlessly, and play both instruments with competency. They rocked through their newest 2 albums, and the fusion of their original sounds had everyone on their toes from start to finish. It was an incredibly exhilarating and exciting show.
I been listening to Reggie and the Full Effect since 2003 since I saw them headline the Friday lineup of the now defunct three day punk/metal music festival Crazy Fest in Louisville KY. What an amazing experience that was an what a performance! Catching them live again has eluded me until yesterday. James and the band were truly humble, appreciative, and friendly to all the fans that showed up. RATFE put on a great performance with an awesome setlist! The venue, Double Happiness, was eclectic, Bohemian, and just great! Will definitely come back again. Thanks for such a great show and I look forward to Reggie and The Full Effect to come back to Columbus Ohio!
Amazing show. I've been a fan for years and they did not disappoint! Got to meet James Dewees(aka Reggie) before the show and get a quick pic. Super nice guy!
