His sound is Christian orientated, but his songs sound close to One Direction, Ed Sheeran - that slow uplifting X factor type music. Of course it's uplifting, the guy sings about how great God is!
'Worthy of all praise' Chris Tomlin continues to light the Christian torch with his moving music. He doesn't mess around with metaphorical nonsense, he says it how it is. 'How Great is Our God,' and 'Jesus Loves Me,' exemplify his no-nonsense lyrics and uplifting, mind-blowing music.
He created his first glorified piece of work in 1995 and it truly kick started his song writing juices. The ball was now well in motion. 13 albums later and the guys is still producing the best work out there in the Christian rock scenes. He has even recorded live albums of his work. Live albums really showcase an artist's passion and ability and Chris has at least 17 live albums in his discography.
A heart of an angel and a voice of a God, Chris Tomlin is music's answer to Jesus! And you can catch him on tour singing his spiritually centred songs. He must be knackered because he plays countless concerts year after year with the same amount of passion and delivery as his last. A wonderful man and a credit to Christians all over the world.
Having played baseball through his teens, West was hoping to earn a baseball scholarship to college, however was later awarded a four-year music scholarship from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois. Whilst still studying at university, West independently released the albums “September Sun” in 1997, and “Every Step of the Way” in 1998. After attending GMA Music in the Rockies, the singer-songwriter was offered a songwriting deal a mere five weeks after graduating.
West became to be a sought-after songwriter and penned songs for well-known musicians including Billy Ray Cyrus and Rachael Lampa. After suffering a hand injury that threatened his musical career, West made a full recovery and signed with Universal South Records in 2002. The singer went on to release his major-label debut “Happy” in 2003 produced by Kenny Greenberg and Jason Houser. The album, aided by the singles “More”, “The End” and “You Know Where to Find Me”, earned West five Dove award nominations.
The singer-songwriter’s subsequent album “History”, once again had Kenny Greenberg and Jason Houser at the production reigns, and was released in June 2005. After the rerelease of his independent LP “Sellout” in 2006, West issued the album “Something to Say” in January 2008, peaking at No. 8 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. Led by the singles “You Are Everything” and “Something to Say”, the album was supported by a 26-city tour entitled “Boomin’ Beyond Measure”. Ahead of his fourth major-label album “Story of Your Life” West released the single “My Own Little World”. The 2010 album was a response to a collection of stories his fans sent to him, and was followed-up by the album “Into the Light” in 2012.
As a child Dixon fared more of an athletic type despite being surrounded by music on a daily basis. With encouragement from his parents to take piano lessons from his aunt aged eight, he reluctantly gave in and soon his passion for music would develop and by age 13 he started singing in public. Together with his younger sister Schyler, they formed a Christian rock band called Messenger.
With his passion for music growing stronger by the day, Dixon began writing with his best bud Paul from school as together they improved their songwriting abilities. The piano soon became a haven for Dixon as it soon represented a form of escapism and solace during his reflective moments. In his teenage years he’d become so involved with music that he began leading worship at his church youth group.
In 2012 Dixon appeared on season 11 of the popular talent competition American Idol, accidently. Having previously auditioned for the competition the year before and failing, Dixon accompanied his sister to Idol auditions for moral support. With encouragement from the judges, he auditioned too and both got a golden ticket for the next round of the competition. Dixon made it all the way to the semi-finals performing tracks by Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood Mac and Coldplay along the way.
After his shock exit from the competition, Dixon appeared on various talk shows as he prepared to go on the American Idol tour. In 2012 he released his first original song “New Love” via iTunes. The following year Dixon released his debut album “A Messenger” through Sparrow Records. Within the first week of release he had already shifted of 22,000 copies and went into the Billboard charts at number 15. The album featured singles “You Are” and “Love Has Come for Me”. Following the album’s release, Dixon jumped on the Miracle Tour with Josh Wilson supporting Third Day.
In 2014 Dixon released his second album “Anchor” featuring the single “More of You” and the album went straight to number one in the Christian music charts. Taking inspiration from fellow Christian artists Hayley Williams and Chris Daughtry, Dixon continues to evolve his rock sound and bringing it forth to the mainstream.
Both my husband and I are big fans of Chris Tomlin and his music is often played at our local Christian Social Groups. So last year I decided to buy us both some tickets and treat ourselves to a nice little anniversary night out. It was one of the best we have ever had!
We both had such a great time. Chris was awesome on stage. He came out wearing a blue t-shirt and a black leather jacket and a nice black hat to go with it. I remember loving watching him play the guitar while he was singing. So talented. And, his voice is amazing!
The stage looked really nice too. It was lit up with all sorts of lights, different colors and flashing/beaming around all over. The crowd was really great to. We were pretty much all standing the whole time. And, his music makes you want to dance.
My husband and I got in a few good dances that night, it was a really nice and romantic setting. And, the music that was playing seemed to fit that too. It was really nice. We're actually looking forward to seeing him again. But, unfortunately he hasn't been close enough to were we live to pick up tickets.. keeping our fingers crossed tho! Would recommend to anyone who likes good music!
In the beginning Matthew West began as an independent musician in the late 1990's, he released three albums before signing with Universal South Records. He originally released his first debut album 'Happy' in 2003, which won a Dove Award. His first radio single 'More' stayed at No. 1 on the Christian AC charts. He is an American Contemporary Christian musician as well as an actor, he's known mainly for his singles 'More', 'You Are Everything' and 'The Motions'. His lyrics do preach a lot about God, which is what his music is all about but the lyrics are lovely and have a feel good vibe when you listen to them. He has a lovely voice and although this type of music isn't on the scale of pop or R&B music, he has still managed to become quite well known in the music industry. From seeing him talk and interact with the crowd when on a stage you can see he's a lovely and talented man, he works hard to get his message across which really is what music is all about. I don't plan on seeing him live in the future, his music isn't really for me but I have a lot of appreciation for what he does and he has a moving voice..
'Here we go again... another one of those American Idol rejects' might have been your first thought when you heard Colton Dixon was touring, but this is far from the truth. The Tennessee born singer is still only 22 years old and has a remarkable amount of potential to become the best at what he does. After being knocked out of the Talent Show in 2012, he went on to do several live performances on various TV shows and also recorded two albums in as many years, both of which topped the US Christian charts.
Performing at the Citizens Business Bank Arena shortly before the release of his second album 'Anchor', it was clear that this youngster had plenty of energy and determination in him that will eventually make him a very accomplished singer. He opened with the song 'Our Time Is Now', quite an uplifting and inspirational number that was bound to get the energy in the crowd flowing. He also showed how versatile he was with his next song 'Love Has Come For Me', where he slowed down the tempo and began playing the keyboard. The tune was more spiritual than his opener and was more powerful emotionally – almost ballad like.
In a break between two of the performances, Colton said 'Y'all gunna have a lot more fun if you stand up'... which was 100% correct. Although his songs have a continuous moral message, even non-Christians can agree that he is a great performer who makes some very good and catchy songs that you can party all night long to.
