The lights went down after the enthusiastic and talented R&B opening act finished his set, and as the venue filled with smoke from the machines and the strobe lights flashed across the stage, everyone was screaming out as Rone came on stage with his arms in the air and made his way to his DJ booth. Watching disk jockeys and mixers perform is great, but there’s something really special and extremely skilful about playing live with sample pads, kaoss pads, and synths, which makes a performance really exciting.
Rone played a really great selection of tracks from his mix tapes, and also his album, and opened with Spanish Breakfast that had everyone dancing along straight away. What I loved about seeing him live was the way that he played vast sections of improvised music that he was simply making up on the spot, and reading off of the audience reactions to determine the style of music to play. He was great at interacting with us in the crowd by dancing along, and putting his arms in the air to encourage us to clap and dance along to his tracks.
He’s one of the most talented EDM musicians I’ve seen play live, and his cross over of genres keeps the sound fresh and exciting, and there definitely wasn’t a dull moment in the show.
If you have an opportunity to see Rone live do it , if not do it anyway. I went with my boyfriend and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Rone's music is beautiful (and feline ;3) and his performance is amazingly executed. Try not to experience it sober. 10/10
