Bigged-up originally into the public consciousness by NME, Mumm-Ra (yes, named after the Thundercats villain) span wildly, burning bright before tumbling into an indefinite hiatus approximately one year after the release of their debut LP, These Things Move In Threes. The Bexhill on Sea six-piece managed to spew out a slew of home-run hits before their implosion, including “Out Of The Question”, “What Would Steve Do?” and, of course, the perennial indie rom-com soundtrack, “She's Got You High”.
Fortunately, after six years away from the spotlight, the band have returned. Initially just for shows, they have begun to re-enter the studio for EPs, and, as luck would have it, their long-awaited sophomore full-length. Wowing the ardent fans with their still-impressive sets, Mumm-Ra are on track to return to the wider eye. Their gorgeously imperfect indie-rock will still make you quiver, and the sweaty dive venues they perform at are the most brilliant locations for how adolescent, earnest and lovelorn they sound. Not afraid to get down into the crowds, they're a band that live and breathe intimate surroundings. The electricity is palpable as they lead a rousing singalong of “She's Got You High”, almost certainly a highlight of any show.
