On October 8th, Ovation continues with another forward-thinking live show from Romare, Clap! Clap! and Werkha.
Great dance music albums, albums that sound as good on club soundsystems as they do on headphones and home speakers, aren’t easily made. Rarer still are records that thrill the head, heart and the feet with equal power. One artist that has managed to achieve such a feat in recent years is Romare, with his stand-out 2015 album Projections.
Reimagining the cultural impact of the collage technique for a new generation of music listeners, Projections presents a totally unique sound, lacing together historical African American influences with infectious swing, compelling samples, heavy riffs and hooks.
Joining Romare will be his former Black Acre label mate Clap! Clap!, another artist whose global sound harvest crackles with energy. By reproducing poly-rhythms from all over the world through drum machines, synths & plenty of percussion, Italian producer Clap! Clap! creates futuristic beat music.
Rounding up the line up is Werkha, the project of musician and producer Tom A Leah, who recently released his debut album on Tru Thoughts. Originally hailing from Manchester, a subsequently well-travelled childhood exposed Werkha to a vibrant landscape of varied musical styles which has clearly been manifested in his Afrobeat, bass, house, jazz, funk and soul fusion sound, gaining him fans like the Godfather of world music, Gilles Peterson. He will be playing his full live show.
