Oval Space’s series of live shows, Ovation, makes a welcome return to London this Autumn. Showcasing artists that rarely play in London, special projects or exciting collaborations, Ovation is an exercise in out of the ordinary and intrepid programming.
First up on September 24th is the new collaboration between Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary artist and hip hop raconteur Zebra Katz and Warp signed DJ, artist and producer Leila. The pair recently set the internet alight with their EP, Nu Renegade, a dark and powerful compilation that layers growling rap lyrics over trap and bass inspired electronica.
Joining them will be L-Vis 1990, an artist, who, alongside Night Slugs label mate Bok Bok, has been redefining the UK club sound by creating a singular brand of club music free of rules and genre since 2008. Listen to his new Rinse FM mix here - https://soundcloud.com/rinsefm/nightslugs260715
Also confirmed is Lakker, the Berlin-based slugged out, bass heavy electronic duo. Heavily inspired by the chopped up, processed sounds of the 90s, their humanist slant on electronic music has received support from the likes of Aphex Twin, Laurent Garnier, Lucy, Blawan and Surgeon. This will be the UK debut of their ‘Tundra’ live A/V show, and their first London show since the drop of the lauded album on R&S in May.
Having released records on Rephlex, XL and Warp, this gig will be her first UK performance featuring works with Berlin based pioneer MOUNT SIMS. Born in Iran, Leila moved to London following the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran. Described as ‘the best of what Britain has to offer in the cutting edge of music’ by Gilles Peterson, Leila’s illustrious career has seen her release on Warp, XL and her own Rephlex label, tour live with Björk and remix the likes of Acacia under her experimental Gramatix alter-ego.
