When used effectively there is something immeasurably powerful about the human voice. Chanticleer have elevated it to an art form and every time the all-male vocal ensemble begin a piece, it makes for immediate goosebumps for anyone listening. Named after the ‘Clear Singing Rooster’ in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, the group sometimes known as the ‘Orchestra of Voices’ can really pull off some astounding feats with their voices.
After their now sadly deceased musical director Louis Botto realised that many pieces of Medieval and Renaissance music were not being performed, he put together the group to do just that and whilst they also perform Jazz and Gospel music, it’s these historical styles that remain their trademark. With an ethereal beauty, Chanticleer create a rich, warm tone with their voices. With delicate dynamics and technical harmonies they will absolutely astound an audience who have no choice but to witness the group in silent awe. Although their repertoire is classical, the music is timeless and will evoke an emotional reaction in absolutely everyone that makes the smart choice of seeing the group live.
