Volbeat put on an amazing show at Rock AM Ring 2013. Fresh off of their latest release, Outlaw gentlemen & Shady ladies, Volbeat ripped through a brilliant 70 plus minute set, featuring several songs from their outstanding new release. Highlights include the outstanding 'The hangmans body count', Pearl Hart and Dead but Rising.
Volbeat played in front of an huge festival crowd that was eager and energetic throughout the show, which took place under sunny skies. Other Highlights of the show included a staple of their live set, 'Guitar Gangster and Cadillac Blood' , along with a very nice mix of cover songs ranging from Johnny Cash's Ring of fire, to Judas Priests Breaking the law to Slayers Regin in blood to Ramsteins Keine Lust.
Vocalist and rhythm guitar player Micheal Poulsen's biggest musical influence was Mr. Johnny Cash. All in all, the band ripped through 18 tracks without mercy, showing unrelenting energy and enthusiasm throughout. Volbeat is one of the best live acts you can see, and watching them play fills one with a sense of pleasure and freedom, allowing the listener to get lost in the music and brilliant performance. Volbeat was, without a doubt, one of the major high points of the Rock Am Ring festival of 2013.
The opening band for the night was Black Wizard. A Canadian four piece band with long hair and a big sound. They were a good start for the night.
Killswitch Engage played next and had an epic set! I had not seen them live before and I enjoyed the experience. Their set was full of all their well known songs from 'My curse' to the new 'Hate by design'.
Volbeat followed opening with a tribute to Lemmy, playing the beginning of 'born to raise hell' over the speakers, then coming out to begin the concert playing 'The devils bleeding crown' to the crowds approval. The rest night was slightly marred by technical difficulties when Mr. Poulsens head set wouldn't work correctly. He soldiered on playing a solid set! I had seen them before and liked the added mikes on the staging so the band could move around more.
The venue was good and the show well attended. The staff was efficient and polite. The VIP area was a bit disappointing so I spent most of the concert out and about.
I normally do not write reviews for concerts, but I feel obligated on this occasion. Last night's show was the worst I've ever seen. I left after two or three songs as it was awful. The crowd that stayed seemed to enjoy the band once they started their show. However, I don't understand their appeal.
I have been to many metal shows - probably 15 in the last three years. Volbeat is NOT a metal band. I don't know what the hell they are. It sounded like I was listening to a bad alternative radio station live and in person. I was not alone. Scores of fans were walking out of the show early into their set.
I go to metal shows to support bands that don't necessarily get the accolades and fame of a mainstream artist. In my humble opinion, Volbeat is everything that is wrong with music today. I will never attend any future concerts if they are on the bill.
Thanks for a super concert and an unforgettable day/night in Parken, Copenhagen....
Was it my daughter or was it the two old parents who had been looking the most forward, to yet another concert with VOLBEAT.
We were lucky enough to come backstage and see everything from the “other side”
That also included a Meet & Greet and off course a super fantastic concert delivered by VOLBEAT and not to forget the guest appearances from Johan Olsen, Barney Greenway, Danko Jones, Lars Ulrich and more…
But it was still not quite enough for our daughter. ... She ended up on stage together with other lucky little ones in the last number - Still Counting - This to a huge roar from almost 50.000 people.
In short terms – It can’t get much better. THANKS for everything.
We look forward to seeing you again.

Amazing as always this was the 4th time I have seen volbeat and they were enthusiastic and truly appreciative for there fan base and fed off of the crowds energy opening was the legendary ANTHRAX this was my 2nd time seeing them and they were on fire as well Joey's ball of energy style and amazing vocals were great Frankie Bello and Scott Ian head banging and running around like madmen was amazing and Charlies drumming was insane and the opener crowbot really surprised me the front man Is a true rocker he has the look style moves and the pipes to make it a long way in this cutthroat industry the band was great with a rage against the machine meets the black crowes southern style meets aerosmith type stage presence and moves this guy also is a showman you tube them before you judge see for yourself and there awesome live when the music is pounding
Got to the show as Avatar was just finished up playing. Volbeat took to the stage and it was all over then..so I thought. Volbeat ROCKED the house with "The Devil's Bleeding Crown" and played the songs from "Above Heaven/Beyond Hell". It was just like listening to the album as everything was note for note, timing was perfect, couldn't distinguish between the album and performance. Volbeat rocked the house for 45 minutes and ended with "Still Counting". Not alot of nonsensical talking but serious rocking, if you missed it YOU really missed it.It was amazing to hear how many people were singing along at the same time with the music. This show will be etched into my mind forever, I waited awhile to see them again, and I hope they will be back around sooner than later. Like I said, if you missed the show, you missed an awesome performance!
This was my first Volbeat concert and I simply wished to hear some of my favorite songs. It turned out to be such a fantastic show it left me in awe long time after it ended.
I must say it was also the first concert that I went to where in my opinion the levels of sound of each instrument and vocals were configured perfectly. Each instrument was really being heard loud and clear. Suddenly at some point during the concert millions of confetti (white and red) were shot in the air and rained on people. Later on huge balloons were thrown toward audience and made an interesting effect bouncing all over the place. I should also mention the stage that seemed to be made of screens displaying animations adequate to the songs being played. All in all great experience. Would go see Volbeat again.
What can I say about my FAVORITE band of all time. No words. My very first VOLBEAT concert and it was AWESOME!! The sound and vocals were amazing. Overall, performance a perfect '10'. I was not disappointed at all. The topper would have been a meet/greet with the band. Now that would have been a dream come true! I love Michael's voice and all the songs. I became a VOLBEAT fan 5 years ago, while listening to the local rock station, one of their songs was played. I was hooked, line and sinker. Bought all their albums and researched the band and fell in love.
Thanks VOLBEAT for a memorable night!
(Maybe next concert I can get a meet/greet with Michael)
I am 48 years old & I've seen a lot of great bands put on some really great shows. I love all types of music from M.Haggard to Pantara even some of the older Rap but Volbeat is by far the best live show I have EVER SEEN. They became my favorite band about 3 years ago & I've seen them live twice so far and will see them every chance I get. My wife hates metal but after going with me to see Volbeat my second time in OKC she absolutely fell in love with their music & Michael Poulsen. We are both die hard VOLBEAT FANS FOR LIFE!!! Can't wait to see them again. Really hopeing to get to meet the guys next time. Volbeat are a must see if you haven't already.
Great show overall. It was my first time in this location and my first time volbeat.
Danko Jones did a great job as opener. I have seen them before. I like them a lot because you can feel the enjoyment they have performing.
Baroness came second, and they sounded great. Haven't heard them before, so I didn't know what to expect. I liked thier style and sound, but they seemed a bit too 'slow' to really fit in this lineup. But great anyways!
Then there was Volbeat, and the crowd got insane. The sound was great, everybody - from the band, to the crowd - had a blast!
Thank you for this great evening :)
