There must be something in the water that makes teenage girls from New York City around the 50’s and 60 particularly sassy, and particularly tuneful in equal measure. I mean, where else in the world could you get The Shangri-Las out of Queens and The Chiffons out of The Bronx at roughly speaking the same time? Must be something a little healthier in Bronx water because The Chiffons never had any of the agonising label troubles that The Shangri-Las had ad a version of the group still performs live to this day. They might not be the same three friends that formed at high school in 1960, but founding member Judy Craig is still bringing the house down every single night backed by her daughter and her niece. That family dynamic reflects the original trio better than just about any set of hired hands could and the harmonies are still as perfectly on point as they ever were. Add to that potent mixture the unforgettable songs of Gerry Goffin and Carole King (yes, THE Carole King), and you’ve got one amazing concert on your hands, one that any student of pop music past and present would do very well to seek out as soon as possible.
I was being dragged to an unknown concert about a band that I never heard of before.I was not the happiest girl ever, but I was escorting some younger family members that needed an adult chaperoned along. I had no idea what to expect and I didn't even know what genre of music they played. I was surprised to find out it was The Chiffons, and I was even more shocked and surprised when I found out that I actually liked their music. It wasn't just a few songs either, I liked every single song they played for the audience. They were sweet and interactive, and they were really into making about the fans and making sure everyone had a good experience at the show. The Chiffons proved to be one of the best bands I have ever seen live, and I would definitely be surprised if they were not on the Top 100 the upcoming years. They are so modern and it's nice to see something a little different in the music industry where everything is usually the same old boring things with new titles. All in all, I loved The Chiffons and I will be going back next time.
