In a market as obviously over-saturated as the American country music scene, you’re always going to need something a little bit different about your sound to guarantee that you stand out - that’s exactly what Montgomery and Gentry found back in the nineties, when they first collaborated by playing together in the backing band for Montgomery’s brother, John Michael Montgomery. Neither could find a record deal for some time, and when they did sign to the Nashville division of Columbia Records in 1999, it was the way in which they blended the standard country palette with clear southern rock influences that won over record executives.
It proved to be a wise decision from whoever offered them the contract, too, because they’ve gone from strength to strength since releasing their debut full-length, ‘Tattoos & Scars’. That was the first of three records for the pair to go platinum in the U.S., alongside 2002’s ‘My Town’ and 2004’s ‘You Do Your Thing’, and they would tour throughout the noughties with the likes of Toby Keith, Kenny Chesney, Trace Adkins and Keith Urban. Like the latter two of those, they’ve become the poster boys for a style of country rock with a little more edge to it than usual, something that’s earned them praise and criticism in equal measure; one reviewer felt that ‘Carrying On’, released in 2001, was “trying too hard to be macho.”

I was so lucky when T-roy and Eddie asked my band to do some opening for them 10 years ago. I always loved John Michael and when found he had a brother that kicked ass i was awesome went to a show with my lead singer and keyboardist and I went straight up to Eddie and told him how John Michael was friend and sang at my sisters wedding and I had him and Troy on my tab as long as they were in town Fuckers stayed 3 days and i spent close to 15,000 but they were out one night heard us playing and asked us to join em for a bit. I never met any 2 brothers that played as hard as they worked. and i have drank with them which they kicked my ass played poker with them (eddie is ok but Troy gave me and the buddies playing a run) and beat them but when they took one of my songs and put on a record even tho it never got radio play was so awesome xause After leaving Tracy Lawerence i have found 3 groups that were more than musicians they were friends and when i did last tour it was with them head and Tracy Byrd and i opened for him but it was the greatest and after ended up paralyzed it was them boys and my 2 tracy's and trace that came by or sent me cards and shit to keep my spirits up. I was so stoked that i was going to be going out on the road this summer for first time since i was put in wheel chair and the boys made sure that my band was going to be welcomed with them anytime. it was 2 weeks after that Troy died. I was devastated when walked in from practice and wife told me T-roy had died i cried for hours and then i called eddie and left message telling him he was going to be ok cause his brother was watching over him and i cant wait to hook up with Eddie in few months tho it be as friend and fan i just want to see him kick ass and spin his mic stand. so R.I.P T-roy and kick ass up there with Prince and George i know ya excited to play with them, and don't worry we got Eddie's back. so anyone that hasn't seen M.G. before go see them cause they are they best rockabilly, redneckified rock band ever and never disappoint
The country duo hailing from Kentucky have seen great success in their music over the years, with over 20 chart singles, 10 of those sitting comfortably in the top 10 in the country charts.
The venue I managed to see the country duo perform in was a smallish seated theatre, and I was a little apprehensive that the audience would be mellow and seated throughout. Goodness me was I wrong! Everyone there, it appeared, shared my apprehensions, and was up on their feet from the sound of the first chord. The energy of the entire concert wouldn’t permit a stagnant audience, encouraging us to sing, dance, and interact throughout the entire show. You would never know that Tony Gentry had recently been in hospital having shoulder surgery from the way he was rocking out on guitar – non stop action and dedication to the music! As well as the musical performance, the sound and lighting were fantastic – brilliant balance for the venue size, and the lighting design was still able to demonstrate it’s flamboyance on the intimate stage. I have seen the country act in both a small, and large venue, and really recommend the intimate setting for a more personal performance. Still just as fun, with tonnes of dancing!
Although T-Roy was missing the concert was awesome and they did a great job. Eddie and the boys got the crowd into the performance. Paid tribute to T-Roy and sounded great. Would definitely see them again and the Grizzly Rose is a great venue for them.
The concert was awsome, I tried to tell how good they are live to the people in my group they never seen Montgomery live. Band totally delivered, we all had a blast. Thanks for making the concert easy!
Even without Troy this was one of the best concerts I've attended. If you get a chance please go and see it for a great time. Great music and tribute. Troy they are doing you well
I didn't really get to see them in concert, but I was at the one in Quapaw, OK. It got rained out before they could perform, but I'm 100% sure that it would of been awesome.
