Osborne was born in Providence, Rhode Island, US to a very large and musical family. He is the youngest of 12 children (a sibling to 6 sisters and 5 brothers). Several of his brothers and sisters also pursued careers as musicians, one of them being his older brother Billy who was his fellow bandmate in L.T.D and is now a L.A. based producer/songwriter. Jeffrey’s oldest brother Clay Osborne is a professional pianist and vocalist.
Though Jeffrey’s father died when he was only 13 years old he inherited his strong skill and passion for music from him. Clarence “Legs” Osbourne was a jazz trumpet player whose past collaborators include Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and Lionel Hampton. Jeffrey’s father often sacrificed many important stints as a musician to be with his family and always encouraged his children's aspirations.
Jeffrey joined the group L.T.D. as the drummer and moved out to Los Angeles with them when he was in his early teens. While he was out in L.A. he also sat in as the drummer for the O’Jays when the band’s official drummer did not feel up to playing.
Jeffrey eventually filled in as the lead singer for L.T.D. and led the group to success with a string of hit R&B albums throughout the 70s and early 80s. Two of the band’s albums, 1977s “Something to Love” and 1979s “Devotion” were certified Gold and reached No.1 and No.5 on the US R&B charts consecutively. Their 1978 album “Togetherness” went Platinum and debuted at No.3 on the US R&B charts.
Osborne put out his self-titled debut album in 1982 and scored two top 40 hits on the pop charts with “On Wings of Love” and “I Really Don’t Need No Light”. His next release “Stay with Me Tonight” proved to be an even bigger success reaching Gold status and going on to claim Platinum certification. This album was well-received both in the US and the UK, with it’s single “Stay with Me Tonight” climbing to No. 18 on the UK charts.
In 1985 Osborne co-wrote the Whitney Houston single “All at Once”, which appeared on her monumental self-titled debut. That same year he contributed to the USA for Africa campaign, collaborating on the song “We Are the World”.
Throughout Osborne’s career he has recorded a total of 5 albums that went either Gold or Platinum. In 1990 he signed on with record label Artista and released the album “Only Human”. In 1997 Osborne released his Christmas album “Something Warm for Christmas” and two years later issued a greatest hits compilation entitled “Ultimate Collection”. During the 2000s Osborne entered into contracts with several independent labels and released albums such as 2000’s “That’s for Sure”, 2003’s “Music is Life”, 2005’s “From the Soul”, and 2013’s “A Time To Love”.

Hailing from Providence, Rhode Island, Jeffrey Osborne is man with the quintessential soul voice, the kind of man that gives you goosebumps as standard, he was also the lead singer of the R’n’B and Funk band L.T.D, although since parting ways in the 80s has gone on to receive 5 gold and platinum albums – the smooth power of his approach cannot be underestimated.
The audience was a swaying mass from the start and was as enchanting as watching groups of fish quickly change direction together. My utmost favourite song and ultimate classic On The Wings of Love was spellbinding and the key change nearly made me cease up in a blissful paralytic fit, I really don’t know how he carries his voice so unbelievably well.
It was quite clear from seeing him as well how much he enjoys doing what he does, his chuckle is warm and made me uncontrollably smile, he joked with the crowd, knew when we weren’t singing as loud as we could. He creates a warm and friendly atmosphere; buttering everybody up. It would be easy to group Jeffrey into the same category as the like of Lionel Richie and George Benson but he offers something different, a unique charisma and he still hasn’t lost any of it over 30 years on.
Rhode Island singer/songwriter Jeffrey Osborne may best be known to most as the former lead singer of the band L.T.D but he has gone on to have a successful solo career all of his own since releasing his self titled debut album in 1982. Since then he has been on the road almost constantly either touring his own discography or fronting his popular band.
Now he is focused solely on his own work and the fans continue to flock to the show to hear the timeless funk and blues tones of his music. He is a wonderful frontman who can handle a large room with ease as he confidently wanders from side to side of stage addressing audience members and the venue as whole. His slick live band keep the beat humming along as he engages in onstage chatter before performing classics such as 'Stay With Me Tonight' and 'On the Wings of Love'. Osborne's vocal does not seem to have frayed with age as he performs a rousing version of 'You Should Be Mine' for an encore and the applause are clearly keeping him young.
When the ticket for the Jeffrey Osborne concert became available, on that very same day, tickets for another one of my favorite groups were available for a concert on the same day!! I was trying to decide on which concert to attend, and after much thought, decided to attend Jeffrey Osborne. It was one of the BEST decisions I ever made!! Jeffrey Osborne was awesome! His voice is as beautiful and full as it was back in the days of LTD!!! In fact, it may be better!!! He sang many of my favorite songs, but I have so many, it would take 5 or 6 more concerts to hear them all, so I just have to settle for listening to CD's and albums. Jeffrey Osborne is one of the best male singers ever and the next time he is in the Chicago area, I will definitely be there!!!
Jeffrey Osborne was fantastic! I truly enjoyed the show! He is very personable and a dynamic singer! His voice is blessed with the ability to be the to his songs! I would love to see him again soon. I would love the setting to be similar. I only wish my seat was closer to the stage as there were too many people standing for most of the show! Maybe in the future the staff could address these issues. Jeffrey Osborne is a popular, powerful artist! I will definitely go again soon!! Please keep me informed of future dates of performances!! Memorable performance!!!!!
Jeffrey Osborne is still a crooner. He is69 years old an he still performs like he is 30. He sang A medley of LTD hits and the sang some of his. He came off the stage to go through the audience several times. He also let the audience take the mike to WooWooWoo several times. The band was sharp. Jeffrey said the drummer just joined them, but he was tight with rest of the band. Silky smooth and strong vocals. The background singers were very good as well. It was an excellent night!
The show was AMAZING!! Jeffrey still has the moves and the voice! I am one of his Biggest fans. I mean, 'Love Ballad' was out 1st dance song at our wedding, 10 years ago.
Jeffery O. has so much energy that its contagious! Peabo B. Was great! Peabo looks awesome and sounds great. A wonderful opener for Jeffery! I had a blast and would ABSOLUTELY see Jeffrey Osborne in concert again!
This was the second time we saw Jeffrey Osborne. Peabo Bryson opened with various songs. He was outstanding - sounded awesome.
The show was running a little behind schedule, because of the late start, but when Jeffrey Osborne came out, the crowd went absolutely ballistic. He sounded so unbelievable. I would highly recommend you seeing him.
Fantastic experience!!!
Jeffrey is Extremely Awesome!! My husband and I have seen him in concert Several times...we try to see him once Every year if not twice...His Concerts are always so exciting and His voice is just as Strong, clear and as Beautiful as it was in his LTD days. It has NOT CHANGED!!!.. Move out of the way Covid-19, you blocking me from my Jeffrey!!
Very entertaining and crowd interaction was great! Started the concert off by coming out from the back singing and shaking hands with the fans. Came down off the stage several times and even allowed some lucky fans to do their very best Woo Woo Woo! Great concert and brought back a lot of the good ole music.
Jeffrey and Peabo Bryson were amazing as always! So much energy and great interaction with the audience. My daughter who has Down syndrome was so excited to receive a rose from Peabo and had a little hand holding dance with Jeffrey. They made her night! Would highly recommend this show to all R & B fans!
