Who says you need a big studio to produce music that will eventually top the charts? You don't and Adam Young proved just that.
While suffering from Insomnia he began producing tracks in the basement of his parents house. At first it was experimental and went under the project name 'Owl City' this was one of many projects Adam has started, but after posting songs on social networking site 'MySpace' a following was gained.
The following on MySpace grew steadily and Adam would constantly respond to his audience giving them a sense of connection and relativity, not a thing many musicians go to the lengths and depths to offer. This is one of the many reasons as to why he was able to get a deal with 'Universal Republic Records'.
2008 saw the signing of 'Owl City' to Universal Republic Records and 2009 saw this officially confirmed, after the attention of presidents Avery and Monte Lipman was caught.
Under Universal Republic Records his most acclaimed song 'Fireflies' was released and has managed to go 6 times platinum in the U.S as of April 2010.
Owl City has collaborated with many artists including: Lindsey Stirling, Britt Nicole, All About Us and most notably Carly Rae Jepsen. The collaboration with Carly Rae Jepsen titled 'Good Times' went 4 times platinum in Australia and was number 1 on the Canadian hot 100.
As of 2014 Owl City has released 3 albums; 'Ocean Eyes', 'All Things Bright and Beautiful' and 'The Midsummer station'. As of 2014 it was confirmed that a fourth studio album was in the works.

Adam Young, better known by his stage persona Owl City is the Minnesotan electro/synth-pop artist who took the globe by storm in 2009 following the release of 'Fireflies'. The massive unexpected alt-pop hit went on to be certified six times platinum and topped the charts in the US, UK and Australia. The singer's reputation increased hugely and his following grew even larger, continuing from the early success of his music on Myspace.
Despite starting out very much as a solo artist, Adam is now supported by a vast and technical live band who give an extra dimension to his electro-pop. They give real depth to opener 'Dreams & Disasters' are remain a strong force throughout the gig. Conducted by Young, he is a humble and warm frontman who continually acknowledges and thanks the audience for support and attending.
Playing a variety of tracks from all four albums, the biggest cheers are for material from second LP 'Ocean Eyes' which of course includes 'Fireflies'. Although the audience seems receptive to everything played, and the mass sing/dance-along to 'Good Times' during the encore shows Owl City have a bright future.
Every time I see Owl City live, I leave feeling inspired and filled with more hope than I had before. Some of the most fun I’ve ever had has been at the Owl City concerts I’ve attended.
Positivity and joy always fills the room, because Owl City’s music is so hopeful and bright. Adam Young is a fantastic musician who is super kind, humble, and grateful, and that definitely shows through at his shows. The members of his live band are also some of the nicest people in the world, and they are very talented at what they do.
Owl City always puts on a great show with fantastic lights, a great set list featuring both older and newer songs, lots of dancing, and fun interactions with the crowd. The quirkiness of Adam’s words, dancing, and facial expressions are a big part of what makes Owl City’s live shows so unique and memorable. I have seen Owl City in various settings, both up close in a small venue and far away in a large amphitheater.
It doesn’t matter what type of venue you’re in, Owl City never disappoints. Everyone should attend an Owl City concert at least once if they get the chance!
I'd never seen Owl City before and his concert was definitely different. He put on a good show with many epic guitar moments--barely any keyboard-- but it threw me off that he rarely looked up at the audience. He stares down at the floor and sings to his mic. That said, his fans obviously loved him and he did put on a show with energy! I think he's more comfortable not looking at the audience.
Owl City played a nice range of songs, even Fireflies. The concert felt long in a good way! You want to feel like you're getting your money's worth.
I really disliked his opener. She had a great voice, but her lyrics and covers were horrible.
End of story: If you're a fan, you will like his show.
I saw the Cinematic Tour in House of Blues, Chicago, and it was fantastic. Adam's stage presence is so relaxed and friendly, but the music was on another level. The visuals were impressive, but the part that impressed me the most was the first "song" he played (it was a medley), he played like every freakin instrument on the stage. The openers (Matthew Thiessen and the Earthquakes) also killed it. One piece of advise tho: if you go to concerts at the House of Blues, avoid balcony "seats." Because of the way the balconies staggered, they blocked my view of the front of the stage and I was struggling to see Adam through the entire show. If you get a chance, definitely go see this guy. 10/10.
Adam Young (Owl City) is truly amazing! I’ve been listening to his music for 9 years. Although the style and sound changes he never ceases to amaze and inspire his fans. After all these years his heart and his passion are still in it. His music has helped cheer me up and calm we down through the good and bad times in life. To hear and see him play it live gives me goosebumps. His play on words is like a puzzle waiting to be solved, and the music he makes sounds like magic. He is very talented and you can tell he cares about his fans and not just money. His shows are great and you never know what he’s gonna do! He’s amazing! And I will forever and always be an Owl City fan!
This concert was an amazing experience for me!
The concert was in an amazing stadium, I was extremely close to the stage and the experience was truly unique.
I so close that I could clearly see them which was quite different to my previous concert experience in which the performers were blurry and in the background.
I was extremely grateful for Owl City to choose to perform in Singapore as I got the opportunity to enjoy his music.
I hope to see him again in Singapore soon.
Owl city put on an amazing concert. I knew that Adam had a good voice, but it surprised me just how amazing his sound was; I'd always thought his voice was at least somewhat altered in all his songs but it was clearly legitimate and so unique. He interacted with the audience more than I expected he would and was so kind and thankful. The lights and effects were exciting and there's really only good things I can say about the show. Very professional and fun
Awesome concert! Old songs, new songs, great light effects, and high energy show. Adam Young is such a gifted songwriter and all around musician and his music is such a gift to the world. Loved singing along and dancing to the music. What a special night!
It was the best night ever!
My friends and I were right at the front and got to see everything! We met so many wonderful people who loved Owl City/Adam Young just as enthusiastically as we did.
He’s so cool! And his awkward dancing is cute, too! ❤️
Amazing dude full of energy and writes the best songs. He’s so adorable and his concerts are literally dope!
