Yorn made his breakthrough with his album “Musicforthemorningafter” which achieved Gold status; due to the single “Life on a Chain” He was named one of the ones to watch by Rolling Stone in 2001. The album made it to number 111 in the Billboard 200 chart. His follow up album, “Day I Forgot” made it to number 18 in the Billboard 200, leading the release of the album with the single “Come Back Home” which made it to number 32 in the US Modern Rock Chart, the second single of the album “Crystal Village” made it to number 28 in the Adult Top 40. The album has sold over 300,000 copies to date.
Whilst on tour for the album “Nightcrawler”, which made it to number 50 in the Billboard 200 chart, Yorn would always make an appearance in a record store, performing acoustically a short set, whilst catching up with the fans. The album went on to be name one of the top 20 records of 2006 by Paste Magazine.
Pete Buck from R.E.M has featured on a couple of Yorn’s recordings such as adding some of the instrumentation to “Strange Condition” and a handful of songs on the “Day I Forgot” full-length. Yorn also supported acts such as Dave Matthews Band, R.E.M, Crowded House, Foo Fighters and Coldplay to name a couple.
His fourth album “Back and Fourth” made it to number 32 on the US Billboard 200 Charts, which was released through Columbia Records on June 23rd 2009. He also collaborated with actress Scarlett Johansson on the album “Break Up”, which went on to make it to number 41 on the Billboard 200 charts. The album even went Platinum in France.

Pete Yorn has a way about songwriting that is able to engage an audience with the first strum of his guitar. He has been going strong since his critically and commercially successful album, Musicforthemoringafter, and he continues to put out great albums and tour frequently. Pete Yorn is usually seen playing an acoustic guitar, but he often will use the electric guitar to play his more heavy tunes such as “For Nancy”, which is a crowd pleaser that the audience is guaranteed to rock out to. His music has typical elements of alternative rock music, but sometimes has a country twang incorporated in it. Pete Yorn has a very laid back vibe to his performance. He has a carefree stage presence about him with his long hair and sunglasses, which he is often seen sporting around. He has the ability to walk on stage in the most nonchalant way and awe the audience with his entrancing music like it was effortless. Yorn often sings in a withdrawn and apathetic voice, but somehow this enhances the cool, suave style of his delivery. Pete Yorn is well respected by many critics and fans, and has been featured in several movie soundtracks including almost every Farrelly Brothers’ film. Pete Yorn has also worked with many talented artists such as Peter Buck of R.E.M. who has performed guitar on several of his recordings. He has also performed and recorded with Scarlett Johansson having released the album “Break Up” with her. During his tours Pete Yorn will perform with a back up band that helps create a more energetic delivery to his performance.
When seeing Pete Yorn live you can expect to hear a wide diversity of his musical talent. He might play a soft, sentimental song such as “Lose You” at one moment and then at another moment he might rock out to the song “Precious Stone”.
